My counselling and psychotherapy training
My study, training and education in the counselling and therapeutic field have been extensive and widespread.
I have qualifications in Couples Counselling; Bereavement Counselling; and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I have undertaken an Ecotherapy training course about encompassing and embracing nature in therapeutic practice. I am interested in and have studied Focusing as a therapeutic model. I have helped provide Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy training.
Following six years intensive psychotherapy training and graduation at the renowned Metanoia Institute in London, I am both a registered psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and a registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
To understand a range of therapeutic processes, I have additionally attended introductory training in Gestalt; Transactional Analysis; Psychosynthesis; and, Integrative therapies. I am a qualified and certified supervisor for counsellors and their casework.
I participated in a year-long study of Person-Centred Practice at the Difficult Edge, the contents of which were subsequently published, covering such topics as a deprivation for students in schools; autism; Asperger’s syndrome; dementia; and psychotic experience.
I have undertaken extensive training in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and provided training in its undoubted benefits. I am also a qualified Mediator at the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) in London.
I am a registered counsellor and psychotherapist and I have been practising in Brighton since 2007.
I am also a qualified mediator with wide-ranging life experience in workplace mediation.
I trained as a client-centred – or person-centred – psychotherapist so that I could continue to contribute to what people want and desire, as I have done through my life’s work.
My career, education and learning in public and private sector trade union negotiation have brought me, uniquely, an informed appreciation of individuals’ issues and concerns in an ever-changing society. It has given me a deep understanding, enabling me to contribute to supporting individuals and couples and families in addressing matters that affect their growth and development.
My academic qualifications underpin this commitment. My BA in Sociology provides an appreciation of society’s structures and pressures; a Diploma in Personnel Management provides an insight into individual’s workplace concerns, and an MA in Law and Discrimination affords a deep understanding of discrimination in all its forms. These qualifications underpin a deeply held value, passion and desire for equality for everybody, regardless of persuasion.
My counselling and psychotherapeutic qualifications, range of experience, qualities and ethics enable me to enter into a therapeutic or counselling relationship that addresses whatever issue or matter an individual or couple wishes to bring to the counselling room.
